You beat me to it Paul.  

That relay isn't the same one as in the article, just a "semi" suitable replacement.  The "new" PN is a 24V relay.  The schematic has a series 15V zener, so the coil might work most of the time.  

Here's a 12V rating part that might work:

The contact rating is kind of wimpy, but not sure if there's something better with the same pinout.
